- 8 digital applications offered for development and implementation
- 2 million lei for the financing of civic projects
Bucharest, August 26, 2019 – The Vodafone Romania Foundation launches a new open call for the national program „Connecting for Good„, supporting eight digital projects that use mobile technology for the benefit of physically, socially or economically disadvantaged people. For the first time since the launch of the program in 2012, the Vodafone Romania Foundation offers, besides the financing, eight digital solutions to be developed through the Civic Labs platform, created by the Code for Romania team, and later implemented. The total amount allocated to the program amounts to 2 million lei, which covers both the financing offered to the applicant organizations and the technical consultancy provided by the Code for Romania for the implementation of the projects. Interested nongovernmental organizations can apply online between August 26 – September 16, 2019, 16.00 hours, on the website www.civiclabs.ro. The winners will be announced on October 28, 2019.
This year, in February, Vodafone Romania Foundation joined, as a strategic partner, the Civic Labs program, carried out by Code for Romania, with the mission to develop software solutions for various health and education problems. The first months of the Civic Labs program were dedicated to researching these two domains of interest together with specialists, experts and other organizations active in the analyzed areas. The reports resulting from the research are available on the www.civiclabs.ro platform. Following this analysis, problems were identified that relate to two strategic sub-domains for the activity of the Vodafone Romania Foundation: „Health of the mother and child„, respectively „Human resources in education„. Eight digital solutions have been proposed as solutions for the identified problems.
The digital solutions that will be funded through the „Connecting for Good” program are the following:
For „Health of the mother and child”
- Free ride-sharing transport application for mothers from disadvantaged areas.
- Mobile application for people working in disadvantaged areas (eg social workers, community assistants, NGOs) that allows keeping a medical record for monitoring future mothers.
- Database of volunteering physicians, classified by specialization and region, to be used by nurses and NGOs for medical advice or services.
- Accommodation platform, managed by an NGO, in which private persons can register an apartment or room in their house to provide accommodation for parents / guardians who have hospitalized children with serious conditions.
For „Human resources in education”
- Resource platform for teachers working with children with special needs, which includes an integrated help-line, operated by specialists.
- Platform of best practices for teachers and educators (examples of lessons, informative videos, webinars, live streaming).
- Vocational training platform for teachers (contains all accredited and non-accredited courses) that can be used by teachers or schools for the administration of human resources and training programs
- Web application that includes resources in Romanian that can be used in the classroom by any teacher or educator and which includes an algorithm that offers resource recommendations according to their needs.
The call is public, and the jury will include representatives of the Vodafone Romania Foundation, the Code for Romania Association, as well as members from the private and public sectors. Non-governmental organizations are invited to apply through the dedicated form appearing on the page of each prototype, available on the website www.civiclabs.ro. We are looking for partners who have experience in both fields and who can effectively manage, communicate and implement one of the eight civic technology solutions proposed for financing.
Organizations will be provided with the prototype of the application they desire to implement and also with supporting documents such as: app documentation, the results of the research carried out and other additional sources of information.
