Project objective:

Improving the operating conditions of the Emergency Department of the Children’s Emergency Hospital ”Grigore Alexandrescu” and creating better treatment conditions for patients coming to the Emergency Department of the Emergency Hospital.

Problem:

The Emergency Department of the Children’s Emergency Hospital ”Grigore Alexandrescu”underwent a rehabilitation, refurbishment and expansion process, with the financial support of the Ministry of Health. Due to the limited budget, there were encountered problems in the process of endowment with medical equipment and specific furniture. The Emergency Department had 7 beds (plus 1 bed for imaging) and covered an area of 89 sq. m.

Solution:

The Vodafone Romania Foundation financed the purchase of medical equipment and specific furniture for the endowment of the new Emergency Department of the Children’s Emergency Hospital ”Grigore Alexandrescu”. This project also falls within the strategy of the foundation to finance programmes which improve healthcare in Romania.

Results:

The number of hospital beds was increased from 7 to 20, thus increasing the minimum number of patients who are treated daily in the Emergency Department by 320%, from 125 patients to 400.

The list of the purchased specific medical equipment includes: a system for monitoring vital functions, two portable electrocardiographs with 12 channels, one trolley, a defibrillator with external pacemaker, a triage medical device, a fan for the resuscitation room, a heated table for new-born resuscitation and a Doppler ultrasound machine.

Moreover, through these endowments, there were improved the working conditions of the hospital personnel and the quality of healthcare. The increase in the number of patients that can be treated enables access to quality medical services also for patients from the surrounding areas of Bucharest as well as from other areas of the country. The endowment of the Emergency Department of the Children’s Emergency Hospital ”Grigore Alexandrescu” was conducted in partnership with the Foundation for SMURD.

The little patients benefit from separate care compartments, provided with medical gas, advanced air conditioning systems, individual monitoring, high sterility and safety level in low noise and friendly lighting conditions
