Purpose: setting up a taxi-type social service for people with neuromotor disabilities
According to the DGASPC statistics of March 2018, in Bihor County there are 19,972 people with disabilities, of which 1,012 are children. However, there is no adapted taxi service available, although there is a law in this respect. The problem of being home-ridden is well-known by families who have a member with neuromotor disabilities. If, for example, the disabled person lives upstairs and his or her family members are elderlies, the disabled person is doomed to spend years on end indoors. The parents of the disabled children benefiting from the services provided by the Mihai Neşu Foundation are often complaining about how taxi drivers refuse to give them and their children a ride to the therapy centers, simply because most taxi drivers do not want to carry the wheelchair in their car trunk, claiming that their cars are not adapted to handle such requests. The needs of children and adults with disabilities are costly, so the purchase of an adapted private car remains a dream.
The proposed solution was to set up a social taxi service for people with disabilities. This solution consists of:
-purchase and adaptation of a vehicle to the needs of the disabled (vehicle equipping with elevator and ramp);
-hiring a professional driver who cares for the disabled and their special needs;
-promoting the transport service for people with disabilities so that the service may be accessed by as many people as possible;
-developing and tracking the evolution of the taxi transport service and periodically evaluating it with a view to improve it further and, if necessary, to expand it.
-over 800 beneficiaries / monthly;
-the possibility for people with disabilities to access the taxi service with confidence and to benefit from a really positive change in their lives.
