Vodafone Romania Foundation to finance seven projects with 600,000 euros through 2017 Connecting for Good program

  • The projects have been selected as winners of the 2017 Connecting for Good financing round
  • Launched in 2012, Connecting for Good provided total financing of 3.5 million euros for projects that helped 30,000 beneficiaries

Bucharest, May 15, 2017 – Vodafone Romania Foundation announced the seven winning projects of 2017 Connecting for Good financing round, which will receive total funds of 600,000 euros. The winning projects are „Connecting for Children with Autism” – Help Autism Association, „Hearing is a Gift. Do not ignore it!„- Smiling Faces Romania Association, „Click SAVE for life!”– Foundation of Community Support, „The First Telemedicine Centre for Pediatric Diabetes in Romania„- Support for Diabetes Association, „Together for Health”- Profilaxis Medical Help Foundation, „HOSPICE – Connection for Caring and Compassion„- HOSPICE Casa Sperantei Foundation and „Senior citizen phone” – Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation. The announcement was made by Ravinder Takkar, President and CEO of Vodafone Romania, representative of the founder member of the foundation, at the annual Connecting for Good conference, which brings together the most important partners of the foundation, NGOs and beneficiaries of its programs.

More than half of the annual budget of the Vodafone Romania Foundation is directed towards projects in the healtchcare field, which is one of the foundation’s four strategic areas of investment, together with education, social services and volunteering. Through Connecting for Good, Vodafone Romania Foundation succesfully uses technology to improve people’s lives”, said Ravinder Takkar, President and CEO of Vodafone Romania, the company that founded the Vodafone Romania Foundation.

Connecting for Good is a strategic program of the Vodafone Romania Foundation, which annually grants financing to projects run by non-governmental organizations that use mobile technology to solve social problems identified in one of the foundation’s four strategic areas of investment. Through this program, launched in 2012, the foundation granted total funding of 3.5 million euros for 48 projects with more than 30,000 final beneficiaries.

Within this program, the foundation will finance the rebuilding and modernizing of Constanta County Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Unit and its endowment with a telemedicine solution, a project implemented together with Inima Copiilor and Daruieste Aripi associations. The total budget needed for this project is estimated at 1.3 million euros. In order to raise the funds, Inima Copiilor and Daruieste Aripi associations carry out a national donations campaign and the total amount obtained will be matched by the Vodafone Romania Foundation.

The first telemedicine project run by the Vodafone Romania Foundation marked a premiere for our country and consisted of the implementation of such a solution on SMURD ambulances in 2005.

Vodafone Romania Foundation is a Romanian nongovernmental organization with charitable status, distinct and independent of the company’s commercial operations, established in 1998. During the 19 years of activity, Vodafone Romania Foundation has financed 1,046 programs run by 660 NGOs throughout the country, in the fields of health, education, social services. The projects had 1.9 million beneficiaries – children, young and old people, physically, socially or economically disadvantaged persons. So far, Vodafone Romania has invested more than 26 million euros in projects run by nonprofit partner organizations.
