Bucharest, 15 July 2020 – In the period July 2019 – June 2020, M.A.M.E. Association offered social and medical guidance, information and counseling adapted to the needs and situations of 328 adults suffering from severe diseases within the “SMS for Life” project. For the fifth consecutive year, the project was supported by Vodafone Romania Foundation, the funding granted for 2019/2020 edition being of 161,000 lei.
Both the patients and their families were guided in order to access psychological, social and medical services within the country and, in particular, abroad. At the same time, they benefitted from support and consultancy in the process of raising the funds necessary to pay for medical treatments and surgical interventions that they would undergo in clinics abroad, inclusively by allocation of short numbers for donations by SMS.
From the launch of the „SMS for Life” project and until present, 2,250 persons received counseling. For 62 of them, after they met the eligibility criteria, short numbers were allocated for donations by SMS of 2 Euro. The cases which were not eligible for SMS campaigns received consultancy in order to use other methods for raising the necessary funds, so that another 310 persons managed to raise the funds they needed, in full or in part. Throughout the seven years of the project, over 450,000 SMSs were sent and the amount donated to the patients suffering from severe diseases is over 1,100,000 Euro, which was used to pay for some treatments and medical investigations at clinics abroad.
