Bucharest, August 7, 2019 – From January 1, 2019 – June 30, 2019, the Vodafone Romania Foundation and HOSPICE Casa Speranței carried out the project „We value every moment of life. Strengthening the unit HOSPICE Casa Speranței Brașov with beds”. During the above mentioned period, almost 180 patients facing an incurable diagnosis were admitted to the HOSPICE center Casa Speranței in Brașov, where they received free comprehensive and complex palliative care services.
The project received a financing of 225,000 lei, enabling almost 180 patients with oncological diagnosis to benefit from over 2,200 days of free hospitalization, 100 kinetotherapy sessions and 255 social and spiritual counseling sessions, offered in HOSPICE center Casa Speranței in Brașov.
Vodafone Romania Foundation is a traditional partner of the palliative care center HOSPICE Casa Speranței, the collaboration between the two organizations starting in 2006, when the first hospice palliative care program was introduced in Romania. Over time, the Vodafone Romania Foundation has contributed to building the new Hospice center in Bucharest, digitize patient records, set up a therapy room that uses technology during therapy sessions, while Vodafone volunteers have participated in various competitions to raise funds for HOSPICE Casa Speranței.
HOSPICE Casa Speranței, a non-profit organization established in 1992 in Brașov, has introduced the concept of palliative care in Romania and is the largest foundation in the country that offers free specialized services of this kind.
The organization owns two hospitals with integrated services, in Brașov and Bucharest, mobile teams in four cities – Bucharest, Brașov, Făgăraș and Zărnești, six locations for palliative care and education and over 100 beds for the care of inpatients and adjacent activities addressed to patients diagnosed with incurable diseases. In 2019, HOSPICE will inaugurate the socio-medical center from Adunații Copăceni, the first in Romania exclusively dedicated to children with incurable diseases. HOSPICE has developed comprehensive palliative care services which are offered in day centers, for outpatient centers and inpatient units, at patients’ homes and in partner hospitals. In its 27 years of existence, HOSPICE has brought relief and hope to over 30,000 children and adults with incurable diseases, as well as their families.
Vodafone Romania Foundation is a Romanian non-governmental organization, with charitable status, distinct and independent from the company’s commercial operations, established in 1998. In its over 20 years of activity, Vodafone Romania Foundation has funded 1,132 programs run by 730 NGOs from the whole country, in the fields of health, education and social services. The projects had almost 3 million beneficiaries – children, young people and elderly, physically, socially or economically disadvantaged. So far, Vodafone Romania Foundation has invested 30 million euros in projects carried out by non-profit partner organizations.
