Bucharest, March 17th, 2021 – The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within the Constanta County Hospital is up and running and has already received patients. Among them, the first triplets to be born in Constanta county in the past nine years.
The modernization of the newborn unit of one of the most important hospitals in the South-Eastern part of the country was made following an investment of over 2 million euros, supported by the Vodafone Romania Foundation (1,540,000 euros) who also managed the project, the “Dăruiește Aripi” Association (280,000 euros) and the “Inima Copiilor” Association (240,000 euros). The modernization works started in August 2017 and involved the renovation and refurbishing of the space, its furnishing and the provision of a modern telemedicine solution, donated by Vodafone Romania Foundation in September 2019. This telemedicine solution allows the secure transmission of images and medical parameters in real time, the remote monitoring of the vital signs of patients and the organization of video conferences for the medical staff.
The last stage, which conditioned the opening of the medical unit, was for the hospital to obtain the approval and operating permit.
“The fact that the neonatology unit of Constanta County Hospital is now operating in its new modernized space is for us one of the best news we received from the medical sector from September 2019 to this day. We are glad to see yet another project in which we got fully involved alongside our partners being successfully completed and up and running, given the great need for investments in this sector, in which we will continue investing, as a foundation, in the near future as well”, declared Angela Galeta, Manager of Vodafone Romania Foundation.
The neonatology unit within the Constanta County Hospital has a capacity of up to 30 newborns and treats up to 1,000 premature babies or babies suffering from medical conditions every year, covering Constanta, Tulcea, Ialomita, Calarasi, Braila and Galati counties.
